Man in critical condition after crash leads to shooting on Detroit's southwest side

DETROIT – A man is in critical condition after he was shot Saturday after a crash on Detroit's southwest side.

Oscar Hemenez, 40, hit a car in front of his near the intersection of McGraw Avenue and Florida Street about 9:45 p.m., his family said. 

The driver of the car he hit got out and demanded money from Hemenez, police said. When he said he didn't have any money, the driver shot him, police said.

Hemenez was shot in the thigh and rib cage, police said.

Hemenez, a landscaper and father of two, drove home and called police. They rushed him to the hospital.

Police are looking for the shooter. He fled the scene in a black Chevrolet Malibu, police said.
