Drunken driver accused of backing into officials, leading police on wild chase in Livingston County

Brian Cremeans charged with driving drunk, fleeing police

FOWLERVILLE, Mich. – A firefighter and an emergency medical official were hit by a drunken driver who was passed out in a running car, but then woke up and took off from a Livingston County gas station.

The man drove into the Mobil gas station in Fowlerville and passed out in his car, so people there called for help, police said. Officials showed up, but when they tried to wake him up, he became enraged.

Video shows the man backing up in his red Grand Am, hitting a Fowlerville firefighter and Livingston County EMS worker before taking off with the driver's door still open.

The car tore out of the gas station at a high speed, nearly hitting other vehicles and people at the scene.

Moments later, Livingston County sheriff's deputies intercepted the car on Fowlerville Road. Video shows a deputy use a PIT maneuver, or Pursuit Intervention Technique, but the driver maintained control, flashed his middle finger at the deputy and kept going.

Up the road, a dashcam captured video of deputies laying down stop sticks near Grand River and Burkhart roads. Seconds later, the Grand Am flies through, blowing out the driver's tires.

The car spun out farther up the road, and another boxed in the driver once and for all. The driver again flashed his middle finger at the deputies.

Police said Brian Cremeans, 25, of Leslie, was arrested. He was arraigned Monday on several charges, including operating while intoxicated, felonious assault with a vehicle and fleeing/eluding/resisting arrest.

Cremeans is being held on $50,000 bail.

The firefighter and EMS worker suffered some bruises but are expected to be OK.
