I will not be strolling around the zoo Saturday. It's way too hot for the little one.

This week was a big one for all you online shoppers: Prime Days. The deals were major and the web traffic was record-breaking. This of course means scammers are also looking to get a piece of the action.

Scammers were working to reach out to you to “confirm” your order, but in reality, they were fishing for private information. We hope you will share this story with your friends, because really this scam can happen at any time.

Speaking of scams: How about the FaceApp rage? We definitely had some fun with those in the newsroom!

While this isn’t considered a scam, we learned about potential problems. Mainly, the privacy agreement, which offers no protection and gives the Russian developer all kinds of access to your browsing history, including all your pictures.

Be aware of those issues before you download any app. Andy Arena, former head of the FBI in Detroit, was concerned and provided great insight in our story.

Next week, check out Local 4 News at 5 p.m. Monday as we come to the rescue of a bridal party in need of dresses right after the store owner vanished. Can you imagine? I’m thrilled this story has a happy ending!

Now, try to stay cool these next few days.

Take care,

Hank

Recall of the week

Time to check your medicine cabinet.

Earlier this month, there was a big recall of Walmart and Walgreens eye drops because they might not be sterile. Now, that recall is expanding to CVS.

FDA officials say a variety of over-the-counter products by Altaire Pharmaceuticals are being recalled because they could potentially cause infection.

If you have CVS Health eye drops, dry eye relief drops, etc., throw them away.

We’re talking about your eyes, so take this recall seriously!

Scam of the week

Amazon Prime Day was a big success as more than 175 million products were sold. That’s pretty crazy, considering last year the estimate was 100 million.

We learned about some scammers trying to take advantage of online shoppers, so beware!

Some Prime members are being sent emails asking for the verification of credit card information for recent purchases. Don’t reply! Instead, call Amazon directly to ask about any possible concerns.

Prime members have also been receiving texts and calls asking to verify home addresses for delivery.
Amazon doesn’t reach out to customers to confirm personal information.

These situations can create a feeling of urgency. Just pause, take a moment and think it through before making any moves.

Deal of the week

Target is holding a summer savings sale on clothing.

Everything from shirts and tank tops is starting at $5.

Children's shirts are starting at $4.
