DETROIT – Two people were killed and three people were injured Tuesday when a car crashed into a house on Detroit's east side, police said.

The crash happened Tuesday afternoon in the area of Chalmers Street and Kercheval Avenue.

UPDATE: Police say crash related to gang activity

Detroit police confirmed two people were killed and three others were injured in the crash.

An SUV involved in incident crashed in the middle of the intersection with the front end damaged, according to authorities.

Authorities said one person was transported to the hospital from the SUV that crashed in the intersection. At least one person from the car that struck the house was killed and three others in the car were taken to the hospital with injuries, according to police.

The crash caused a fire in the basement of the home, officials said.

No additional information has been revealed.
