OXFORD, Mich. – A boil water alert has been issued in Oxford on Wednesday due to a water main break, officials said.

Residents who live on Oakwood Drive, Woodridge Court and Lakes Edge Drive from 560 east to 790 are affected by the boil water alert, officials said.

Bacteria might have contaminated the water system during the water main break, according to authorities.

Crews are working to correct the situation.

Repairs are expected to be completed by 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Water workers will flush and collect bacteriological samples from around the system, starting at 7 a.m. Thursday.

Residents will be alerted when the boil water alert has been lifted. Until then, they should boil all water for one minute and let it cool before using.
