Grandmother says 4-year-old girl dropped off bus alone at random Ypsilanti house

Homeowner tries to help lost preschooler

YPSILANTI, Mich. – The grandmother of a 4-year-old girl said the preschooler was dropped off the bus alone at a random house in Ypsilanti on the way home from school.

Sheila Gooden said she was waiting for her granddaughter at her bus stop, but when the bus arrived, she was told the little girl was let off at another house.

“This could have been terrible,” Gooden said.

The 4-year-old was on her bus home from preschool at Henry Ford in Ypsilanti on Wednesday, Gooden said. When she wasn’t on the bus, her grandmother learned the girl went inside another home.

Gooden said the girl went up to the front door of the home.

“Knocking on the door -- she figured that’s where she was supposed to go,” Gooden said.

A man answered, brought the girl inside and called his wife. She picked the girl up and took her back to school, where the parents were waiting, Gooden said.

“She put her in the car, riding around, trying to find out where she lives,” Gooden said.
