Are Inkster police hiding more video from violent arrest?

Attorney says video showing officers beat man during traffic stop is not complete

INKSTER, Mich. – Floyd Dent is shown on dashcam video being beaten by Inkster police officers.

He is charged with possession of cocaine but maintains police planted the drugs after beating him during the traffic stop. Dent was hoping the charges against him would be thrown out on Wednesday.

"Things are looking pretty good. Hopefully the right thing will be done," said Dent.

The officer shown throwing the punches is William Melendez. He was suspended Friday and his firing from the Inkster Police Department goes into effect 5 p.m. Thursday.

Melendez was fired from the Detroit Police Department years ago for filing fake reports.

Prosecutors say they want more time to decide on the drug charge, even though Dent passed a polygraph test about the drugs.

Then there is this bombshell: Dent's attorney says Inkster police gave prosecutors a shorter, edited video of Dent's booking process.

"I was advised by an officer that this is incomplete and that her version is 21 minutes long and she was rather disturbed by what she saw," said Dent's attorney, Greg Rohl.

Rohl wants the entire video.

"I believe quite honestly that when we have it in hand and show it to everyone we'll have another 'shake your head why?' issue in front of us," said Rohl.

Moreover, Dent said troubling things happened to him at the police precinct after his arrest.

Inkster Police Chief Vicki Yost said the department fully complied with the court order, sending everything to attorneys and prosecutors. Yost said they have nothing to hide and are cooperating fully in the investigation.

Michigan State Police continue to investigate the officers' actions during the arrest. The FBI is investigating, too. Two agents already have interviewed Dent.
