Cameras roll as gunman opens fire on Detroit auto body shop

8 Mile Auto Repair owner says Detroit police didn't respond for an hour after shots ring out

DETROIT – Moe Fawaz describes what happened Monday morning when gunfire suddenly pierced the air of his auto body shop in Detroit.

"Everyone was screaming and running for their lives, basically. It's like being in a war zone," he said.

Fawaz said cameras at 8 Mile Auto Repair were rolling just after 11 a.m. when a man in a black hooded sweatshirt and ski mask approached the shop's parking lot.

"He walked in with an AK-47 and just started shooting," Fawaz said.

Fawaz said the shop was filled with employees and customers, but no one was hurt.

"I called Detroit police and I told them a gentleman with an AK-47 is shooting at the place. It took them an hour and 15 minutes to respond," Fawaz said.

Fawaz said he's had a business in the area for more than 30 years and is disappointed in the shooting and the way police handled it.

"This was just an outright, full assault to kill people and I can't get an officer to talk to me," he said. "I mean, it's ridiculous."
