Detroit-area police advised to be on high alert after Baton Rouge shooting

DETROIT – After a shooting killed at least three police officers Sunday morning in Baton Rouge, Detroit-area police scanners sent a message to officers to be on high-alert.

The message was sent at least three times over police scanners:

High alert. Officers should be alert and aware of their surroundings after reports of multiple police officers shot in Baton Rouge."

Details are still emerging about Sunday's deadly shooting, which comes just 10 days after Micah Xavier Johnson ambushed and fired upon a group of police officers in Dallas, Texas, killing five officers and injuring nine others.

Meanwhile, the country is still reeling from the deadly shooting of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, which was captured on video by witnesses. He was one of two black men shot to death by police officers on back-to-back days. The shootings led to protests, including the one in Dallas where the shooter specifically targeted police officers.
