Detroit man charged with child abuse after 8-month-old baby dies from multiple head fractures

Child's father charged with first-degree child abuse

DETROIT – An 8-month-old baby died Thursday after suffering multiple head fractures at a Detroit home.

Nasear Ferguson was only 8 months old when he died. His family said he would light up any room he was in with constant smiles and nonstop happiness. Hearts were broken after that smile was taken away this week.

“He was a real happy baby," his grandmother said. "He was so joyful."

The child's father, Dominique Jones-Hardy, told police that he laid Nasear on a bed Monday and walked out of the room. He said he heard a boom and when he walked back into the room, he found the child on the floor.

Nasear's mother, who was at work, received a call from Jones-Hardy, telling her that Nasear needed to be rushed to the hospital.

“My daughter says his story is that the baby was asleep and he fell out of the bed and bumped his head," the grandmother said. "When he picked the baby up, he had went limp.”

Doctors found Nasear with multiple head fractures and, at the hospital Jones-Hardy was arrested for child abuse. He was arraigned on the charges Thursday, when Nasear died from his massive injuries.

“I just want everybody to know: Do not blame my daughter for this," the grandmother said. "She is a mother to her three children. We love our children dearly.”
