Hatchet-wielding man fatally shot by Oak Park officer, police say Police say man threatened to shoot up neighborhood
OAK PARK, Mich. – An Oak Park police officer fatally shot a man who was wielding a hatchet and threatened to shoot up his neighborhood, officials said.
UPDATE: Oak Park police say officer forced to shoot, kill hatchet-wielding man
Police said the 48-year-old man called around 6:20 p.m. and said he had a hatchet and a gun. Police said he was threatening to shoot up the neighborhood in the 23000 block of Avon Road.
When officers arrived, he charged them with a hatchet, and an officer fired a single shot at the man, striking and killing him, police said.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
