Livingston County commissioner Bob Bezotte faces criticism regarding Facebook post

LIVINGSTON COUNTY – A controversial Facebook post that some are calling bigoted was posted by former sheriff and current Livingston County commissioner Bob Bezotte.

"I have a good reputation, nobody has ever called me a racist before," Bezotte said. "That was very offensive to me, that they immediately went to that, that I'm a racist because that was on my Facebook."

The meme that Bezotte shared on his Facebook depicts California Congresswoman Maxine Waters and Florida Rep. Frederica Wilson with the caption "These two despicable democratic hags need to be thrown out of Congress"

Bezotte said he was surprised by the backlash the post has received, but took ownership of his actions.

"I don't see why they're so offended by that because that's not my word. I want to make that clear, but I did post it, so I guess I own it."

He went on to say that he wished the current political scene wasn't so divided.

"If you're a Democrat, you hate the Republicans and vice-versa," Bezotte said. "We're all human, we make mistakes."

When asked if he could understand why people found the post offensive, the commissioner recognized how it could be taken that way and expressed regret.

"Yes, I can see that and I do apologize for that."
