Puppy stolen from family’s home in Warren, returned safely by police

Door Dash driver who took the dog was arrested, police say

WARREN, Mich. – Eight-week-old Bella, an American bulldog, was a Christmas gift for Ashley Swinton and her children.

“We got her two days before Christmas, and just a couple of days ago, I had food delivered,” she said.

Swinton ordered food through Door Dash. Bella was hanging out on the Warren home’s enclosed porch when the driver was caught on camera dropping off the food and taking off with Bella.

“They (the family) thought originally the dog had just gotten out of the room,” said Detective Brian Price with the Warren Police Department.

When Bella was nowhere to be found, the family checked the surveillance cameras to see what happened.

“You can’t trust anybody. You just can’t,” Swinton said.

Swinton called Door Dash and got nowhere. That’s when she went to the Warren Police Department, which tracked down the driver and Bella. The puppy is now back at home.

“Ultimately, it was the children’s Christmas gift. I’m happy the dog was able to be returned to them,” Price said.

Police arrested the driver who took the dog.
