Hunter Locke-Hughes facing charges

Officials have made an arrest after months of investigating a child’s death in Clinton Township.

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Officials have made an arrest after months of investigating a child’s death in Clinton Township.

Police were called Dec. 28, 2021, to the Fern Hill Manor condominium complex to investigate the death of a child, they said.

“The defendant is alleged to have held a 6-year-old child under the water, which caused the drowning, which is the causation of death,” the prosecution said during the arraignment.

Detectives were able to submit a warrant request to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office on Thursday (April 7).

Prosecutors authorized charges of first-degree child abuse and first-degree murder, and Hunter William Locke-Hughes was arrested without incident, according to authorities.

He was arraigned Friday afternoon at 41-B District Court in Clinton Township. Bond was set at $1 million, cash/surety. If bond is posted, he must be on house arrest and wear a GPS tether.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. April 19.
