Michigan State Police troopers said they noticed a driver speeding and performed a traffic stop. The driver didn’t stop immediately, and officials said they saw him put a rifle in the back seat before pulling over.

When troopers walked up to the car, they saw a loaded HP MP5 rifle on the back seat. The driver, a 21-year-old Sterling Heights resident, admitted that the rifle had been on his lap.

Troopers searched the car and found a loaded 9 mm FN pistol under the driver’s seat and a 30-round drum magazine for the rifle in the glove compartment, they said.

The driver didn’t have a valid concealed pistol license. It’s unclear what he was doing with the weapons, according to authorities.

Both guns were seized, and the driver was arrested. He was taken to the Macomb County Jail, pending charges.
