Detroit family receives community support, Christmas gifts after deadly tragedy

‘It’s a real proud day to say I’m a Detroiter.’

DETROIT – A family is thanking the Detroit Community this Christmas after a tragedy affected their family earlier this month.

It was a blessing that came right on time. The last time Local 4 spoke with the family, they really needed help and Detroit stepped up.

It was more than a great Christmas for one big family on Detroit’s west side. Stephanie and Alecia Johnson took in the five siblings of 5-year-old Sturlin Brown after he accidentally shot and killed himself. His parents have been charged with manslaughter.

There are now 10 children under their roof.

Thankfully, the family was able to get help from others who donated money and gifts to the household.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family. You can donate here.
