DETROIT – The parents of a 5-year-old boy who accidentally shot and killed himself while jumping on the bed are facing multiple charges.

25-year-old Halisa Lloydnette-Christine Brown and 33-year-old Sturlin Markese Minion Sr. were both charged Tuesday, Dec. 12, with involuntary manslaughter, three counts of second-degree child abuse and four counts of felony firearm. Minion Sr. has also been charged with one count of felon in possession of a firearm.

The charges stem from a Dec. 9 incident at a home on Greenfield Road, between McNichols Road and Puritan Avenue.

According to authorities, five young children were alone in the house when the boy found an unsecured handgun left on a dresser and shot himself in the face. He was rushed to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Both parents received a $250,000 personal bond. They are not to possess alcohol or guns, and are not allowed to have contact with any children, including their own.

They are expected to return to court for their probable cause hearing Dec. 21.
