ROYAL OAK TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man has been found guilty of murder at an Oakland County hotel after the jury heard from 26 witnesses during his trial.

Christian Amari Johnson, 22, and Aurelius Juan Williams, 22, were charged in a deadly shooting that happened on June 6, 2021, at the Baymont Inn hotel in Royal Oak Township.

Johnson was charged with felony murder, assault with intent to murder, and two felony firearm violations. During his four-day trial, prosecutors called 26 witnesses to the stand to testify.

On Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024, the jury deliberated for about an hour before finding Johnson guilty on all counts.

“I hope this verdict brings the victims and their loved ones some sense of closure,” Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said.

Felony murder carries a possible sentence of life in prison without parole. Assault with intent to murder carries a possible sentence of up to life in prison.

Johnson is being held at the Oakland County Jail until his sentencing on March 18.

Williams pleaded no contest to assault with intent to murder and involuntary manslaughter charges in January 2024. He was scheduled to be sentenced Friday.
