DETROIT – A new restaurant has opened inside one of Detroit’s most iconic buildings.

Sexy Steak, a steakhouse owned by Prime Concepts Detroit which also runs Prime29, Pao Detroit and others, has opened inside the historic Grand Army of the Republic Building, also known as the GAR Building.

There hasn’t been a restaurant inside that building since Republic and Parks and Rec closed a few years ago. The building was bought by Barbat Holdings last February with plans to add a restaurant and event space.

The GAR Building opened in 1901 and is known for its castle-style design, across from Beacon Park. Check out more history here from Historic Detroit.

Sexy Steak is taking up the 4,000 square-foot main floor and 3,000 square-foot second floor, with different dining options. They’re also occupying the fourth floor Grand Ballroom for private events.

The Sexy Steak menu offers steak -- surprising, I know. But also oysters, pasta and other items.

“Sexy Steak embodies a story of passion, born from aspirational experiences and a relentless drive to redefine Detroit’s culinary scene and cultural identity,” writes Prime Concepts.

The restaurant is open Wednesday thru Monday, from 5 p.m. to 10 or 11 p.m., and they take reservations on OpenTable.
