LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State Police are urging residents to not touch or pick up any items that may be explosive or hazardous.

The warning comes after an incident Friday, April 5, when an Army veteran reportedly entered the Michigan State Police Lansing Post with a grenade he wanted to dispose of. Police said he had the grenade for many years, forgot about it and found it while cleaning his home.

The building was evacuated and the grenade was left at the front desk for the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad to handle. Police said a member of the Bomb Squad determined the grenade was inert and removed it from the building.

Michigan State Police are urging residents who come across an object they believe may be explosive or hazardous to not pick it up, move it or bring it to law enforcement, but to call 911. Authorities will come to the location and determine the best course of action from there.
