BRUCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A pickup truck driver went into oncoming traffic to try to pass another car in Macomb County and crashed head-on into a street-legal dirt bike, killing the rider, police said.

The crash happened at 8:45 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2024, at Brown and Reid roads in Bruce Township.

Officials said a 55-year-old Imlay City man was driving a RAM pickup south on Brown Road and used the northbound lane to pass another car.

While the pickup was in the northbound lane, it crashed head-on into a street-legal dirt bike driven by a 53-year-old man from Romeo.

The Romeo man was taken to a nearby hospital by emergency officials, and he later died from his injuries.

Police said the driver of the pickup was not injured. They said they determined that he was impaired and took him into custody.

“Another family is mourning the loss of a loved one due to a preventable traffic crash,” Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said. “There are too many options available to get behind the wheel impaired. Please do not drink and drive.”
