Warren police fatally shoot man while investigating domestic violence complaint

Man allegedly pointed gun at officers

WARREN, Mich. – Police in Warren fatally shot a man Friday, April 12, while investigating a domestic violence complaint.

According to authorities, it happened at about 1:45 p.m. at a home located near the intersection of Garbor Drive and Ryan Road, just north of 11 Mile Road. Police said officers were dispatched to the scene on reports of a man who was reportedly assaulting family members. Sources told Local 4 the man was between 18 and 22 years old and was behaving erratically.

When they arrived, police said they encountered a man who pointed a handgun at them.

“Officers gave warnings and the subject refused to drop his weapon and shots were fired,” said Cpt. Charles Rushton. “It appears he intentionally came around, pointed his weapon at the officers and the officers at that point fired several times.”

Police said 10 shots were fired by three officers.

The man was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No other injuries occurred.

The investigation is ongoing. Police said they will release more information as it becomes available.
