Alcohol not a factor in Monroe County crash that killed pedestrian

ERIE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian in Erie Township.

The crash happened Wednesday, Oct. 9, at about 7:45 p.m. According to authorities, Brian Goldberg, a 35-year-old from Ohio, was driving eastbound on Sterns Road, when he struck Jacob Calleja, a 42-year-old from East Tawas. Authorities said he was walking on the edge of the roadway and wearing dark clothing.

Calleja was rushed to a hospital in Toledo, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said Goldberg stayed at the scene. No other injuries were reported. They do not believe alcohol or speed played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
