4 charged after 2 killed, others injured in shooting at Detroit house party

Shots fired at crowd after argument escalated

DETROIT – Four people have been charged in a shooting at a house party in Detroit last week that left two people dead, and five others injured, officials announced.

Johnny Lee Marsh III, 25, Eladeo Javier-Antonio Garcia, 22, Alfonso Anaya, 18, all of Detroit, and Amber Renee-Sue McIntee, 21, of Lincoln Park, have been charged in the fatal shootings of a 15-year-old Detroit boy and Gage Schmaltz, 19, of Southgate, and the non-fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy and two 17-year-old boys, and an 18-year-old boy, all from Pontiac, and an 18-year-old Detroit girl.

Shots fired into crowd at Detroit Party

The shooting happened at 1:34 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, at a residence in the 6300 block of Devereaux Street.

Officers responded to the home after receiving a report of a block party/large gathering, and when they arrived, they saw several shots being fired from a car into a crowd of people. After firing shots, the vehicle fled, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

Officers pursued the car to the intersection of Gilbert and Devereaux streets, where the four defendants allegedly exited the car and started running away.

Officers apprehended Garcia and Marsh after a brief chase, and further investigation led to the arrests of Anaya and McIntee on Wednesday, Nov. 6, officials said.

The defendants allegedly fired shots into the crowd of people after an argument escalated.

Schmaltz and the 15-year-old Detroit boy were allegedly shot in the head, and the 16-year-old was shot in the face. One 17-year-old was shot in the chest and arm, and the other was struck in the face.

The 18-year-old Detroit girl was shot in her right leg and the 18-year-old Pontiac boy was struck in his face, chest and back.

The 15-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Schmaltz was taken to a local hospital where he died later that day, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The other victims were treated for their injuries at a local hospital.

Wayne County prosecutor charges 4 in shooting

Marsh and Garcia have been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, four counts of assault with intent to murder, two counts of discharge from a motor vehicle causing death, five counts of discharge from a motor vehicle causing death, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, one count of resisting and obstructing a police officer and 14 counts of felony firearm.

Anaya faces these same charges, along with one count of third-degree fleeing and eluding a police officer.

McIntee was charged with tampering with evidence and lying to a peace officer during a violent crime investigation.

They were all arraigned on Nov. 9. Marsh, Garcia and Anaya were remanded to jail, and McIntee was given a $75,000 bond.

A probable cause conference is set for Nov. 19, and a preliminary examination is scheduled for Nov. 26.
