Burned body found in 1987 in Ohio identified as missing Wayne County teen

TOLEDO, Ohio – The burned remains of a woman found in Toledo in 1987 have been identified as a missing woman from Taylor.

Using DNA, the remains were found to belong to 18-year-old Tammy Lowe. Police said her body was found June 16, 1987, near I-75, wrapped in cloth and burned.

According to authorities, the Toledo Police Department reached out to Porchlight Project in October 2024 for help identifying the remains. The nonprofit decided to fund genetic testing that revealed possible relatives in Michigan. Further investigation by the Toledo Police Department narrowed it down to possible family outside Detroit.

A final DNA test reportedly confirmed the match and the remains were officially identified on March 20, 2025, as Tammy Lowe.
