DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – Police caught a suspected bank robber in Dearborn Heights at a coffee shop next to the bank.
It happened at about 2 p.m., Thursday, April 24, at the Dearborn Federal Savings Bank on Telegraph Road, near Colgate Street. Police said the suspect approached a teller, shoved a black bag under the window and told the teller, “This is a robbery, take the bag.” He then reportedly placed a handgun on the counter, pointing at the teller.

Police said he took the bag of money, moved to another teller and demanded more money. He reportedly left the bank with $4,140 in cash.
Officers arrived at the scene and found a man matching the description at a Tim Horton’s less than 300 feet from the bank. Police said the man, who identified himself as Carl Thomas, had a backpack that had a loaded handgun and $4,100 in cash, including marked bills from the bank.
According to an affidavit, Thomas has two prior convictions for bank robbery. He is facing federal charges, including bank robbery, use of a firearm during a crime of violence and felon in possession of a firearm.
