DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI – One person is dead after a crash involving a motorcycle and a car Thursday evening on Ford Road in Dearborn Heights, police said. It happened at the intersection of Ford and Beech Daly roads, FOX 2 Detroit reports. The identity of the victim, who was driving the motorcycle, has not been released, the report said. The incident is under investigation. No further details have been released.

Michigan man shot by police after driving vehicle toward officer in Dearborn Heights
DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI – A Michigan man suffered a grazing gunshot wound after he allegedly attempted to hit a police officer with his vehicle. According to the Dearborn Heights Police Department, the incident occurred in the 8600 block of Evangeline Street south of Joy Road in Dearborn Heights at 6:31 a.m. on Monday when an officer noticed a vehicle which was involved in previous separate flee and elude incidents. However, while speaking with a family member, the officer noticed movement inside the vehicle, which had significant window tint. The driver then fled the area to a relative’s home in Detroit where he was arrest by Dearborn Heights Police. The suspect, a 27-year-old Dearborn Heights resident, suffered one grazing gunshot wound, but refused medical treatment, according to police.

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, MI – A Michigan man is facing federal charges in connection with a scheme to used more than $1 million in pandemic relief loans to buy a condominium in Beirut, Lebanon, The Asociated Press reports. Wahid Mohamed Makki, 59, of Dearborn Heights, is charged with wire fraud and money laundering, the report said. He is accused of obtaining loans for 10 shell corporations and then wire transferring the funds to a bank in Turkey to purchase a “sea view condo,” authorities said. At least nearly $100 billion has been stolen from COVID-19 relief programs that were designed to aid struggling businesses and help people who lost their jobs due to the pandemic, the U.S. Secret Service said in December. Efforts to combat pandemic-related fraud will be led by associate deputy attorney general Kevin Chambers, the Justice Department recently announced.

Community mourns death of 6-year-old; hit and run driver turns himself in

Photo: Imad Mohamad/The Arab American NewsDEARBORN – Tragedy struck the community when a 6-year-old was struck and killed by a driver on a residential street in Dearborn on Sunday. Upon arrival, officers discovered that Batoul Haidar Al Fadawi had severe injuries and determined that the vehicle involved failed to stop after hitting her. One of Al Fadawi ‘s teachers spoke at the funeral. A candlelight vigil was held for Al Fadawi on Bingham street on Tuesday.
