DETROIT – A Detroit man has been arrested and charged in connection with assaulting two police officers in 1997, officials said.
Richard Davis, 54, has been charged with attempting to disarm a police officer and two counts of resisting arrest, causing injury, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
These charges are related to an altercation that happened during a traffic stop when Davis was 27 years old.
At about 10:15 p.m. on Aug. 29, 1997, two Detroit officers initiated a traffic stop on Davis’ vehicle at Irvington and Winchester streets for improper plates.
While they were investigating, officers allegedly found a weapon in his car.
Davis allegedly fought the officers, including biting them, before he ran away from the scene.
He was charged in September 1997, but wasn’t in custody, officials said.
Davis was arrested in connection with the 1997 case on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. He is expected to be arraigned sometime on Wednesday, May 14.
