MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – An Ohio man died after his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree in Monroe County, police said.
At 5:20 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, Michigan State Police troopers responded to northbound I-75 near Sylvania Drive in South Rockwood after receiving a report of a crash.
Several 911 callers had reported seeing the headlights of a car in the grass off the roadway, according to police.
When troopers arrived, they found that a 2018 Tesla Model 3 had crashed. It was being driven by a 47-year-old man from Toledo, Ohio. He was the only occupant.
The man was unresponsive and was taken to a Trenton hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to state police.
An investigation shows that the driver was heading northbound on I-75 when his vehicle left the roadway and hit a tree.
It is unknown what caused the driver to leave the roadway. Police say it is also unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
