PONTIAC, Mich. – A woman was arrested on Saturday for allegedly driving drunk and crashing into an apartment in Pontiac with children inside.

At around 12:20 a.m. on May 17, 2025, Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an apartment building on Firelite near Cherry Hill Drive for a report of a truck crashing into one of the units.

Witnesses reported that the driver of the pickup truck began running away from the crash while carrying her dog.

The sheriff’s office said the three children, two 10-year-old boys and a 13-year-old girl, just went into the apartment before the crash to pick up some personal belongings and were planning to return to the babysitter’s home across the street when it happened.

The children had to break out of a window and climb through it to leave the apartment.

The truck crashed through the apartment’s front door and front window, scattering debris. The sheriff’s office said the children got minor scrapes from the flying debris and were treated at the scene.

The suspected driver, a 36-year-old Pontiac woman, was arrested after a large crowd that gathered following the crash pointed deputies to the woman. The sheriff’s office said she was being held by a security guard.

The woman was taken to a local hospital after complaining of possible injuries. She reportedly denied being the driver of the pickup truck, but deputies arrested her for drunk driving.

She was released from custody pending toxicology reports.
