OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – The body of an Oakland County man who had been reported missing in January was found this week in a Pontiac-area lake by a Flint man and his son, authorities said. Ryan Patrick Pitts, 31, was positively identified through fingerprints taken by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office crime lab, the department said in a statement released Friday, May 6. An autopsy was performed Friday by the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office. The sheriff’s office said that Pitts’ body was found shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday, May 5, in Harris Lake, near North Saginaw and East Montcalm, by a 63-year-old Flint man and his son. The two men saw what they believed was a body and reported it to an Oakland County sheriff’s deputy who was taking an unrelated report in the area.

PONTIAC, MI -- A 17-year-old from Pontiac turned himself in to police Monday, wanted in connection to the shooting death of 7-year-old Ariah Jackson, also of Pontiac. Police were seeking McDonald in connection to the March 18 shooting as they believe McDonald was the getaway driver in the drive-by shooting. Last week, police arrested the accused shooter, Justin Rouser,19, who was arraigned on charges last Friday. The other children in the car were not injured in the shooting. PONTIAC, MI -- A 7-year-old girl was killed Friday in a drive-by shooting that police believe is gang related. Ariah’s father pulled her from the vehicle following the shooting and took her into the home until police arrived. Once they were in the driveway, that’s when the Blazer returned and fired at least six shots, according to police. The mother’s head was grazed by a bullet in the shooting, but she and the three other children were not injured. Police have not said who they believe the target was in the shooting, but have identified a person of interest in the case.

ORION TOWNSHIP, MI -- Police say a 71-year-old man may have been confused prior to be fatally hit by a car Friday night while walking after picking up a pizza. According to the Associated Press, Ernie Fortson, of Pontiac was hit by a car nearly 10 miles away from his home, several hours after he left his home. Fortson’s girlfriend told investigators he’d left home around 2:30 p.m. to pick up a pizza, but never came back. He was wearing dark clothes at the time and was using a walker to assist him. While police can’t say for sure the man was confused, they did say he picked up the pizza and the “kept walking north,” according to a statement from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

When police arrived, they found the victim -- 28-year-old Rory Teasley -- inside the apartment unconscious and not breathing. FLINT – The success the Flint City Bucks soccer franchise enjoyed after relocating from Pontiac three years ago is one of the reasons a women’s team will be playing at Atwood Stadium next summer. But as much as anything, the owners of the new Flint City AFC club see the move from Detroit to Atwood as a way to capitalize on the growing popularity of women’s soccer. “Where ever there are soccer fans, I think a women’s team works, especially with youngsters,” said Eddie Hudson, who will co-own the team along with the Flint City Bucks owners. FLINT, MI -- The mayor of Pontiac wants Flint’s economic development director to become his deputy mayor, overseeing day-to-day operations of city government there. Pontiac Mayor Tim Greimel announced the appointment in a Dec. 23 Facebook post, noting that the appointment of Khalfani Stephens is subject to confirmation by the Pontiac City Council. He will be a great leader in our office for residents.”Stephens was appointed economic development director in Flint in February 2020 by Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley. Stephens is a Pontiac native who previously served as executive director of the Clayton County, Georgia, development authority; as economic development director for the city of Farmington Hills; as business development manager for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation; and, as executive director of the Pontiac Growth Group. Michigan man charged with murder in 3-year-old girl’s beating death

PONTIAC, MI – A Pontiac man is accused of beating and abusing his girlfriend’s daughter so badly that she died, according to officials in Oakland County. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a release Sunday night, that Shean Troy Amerson, 23, has been charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse in the death of 3-year-old Aziya Matthews. Matthews was found unconscious and not breathing when deputies responded to a home in 1500 block of Grandville Court on Dec. 18. She was taken to the hospital and later transferred to Children’s Hospital in Detroit where she died on Dec. 20, according to police. He is scheduled to appear in 50th District Court in Pontiac on Jan. 4.

4th victim dies in hospital after Oxford High School shooting

OXFORD, MI -- A fourth victim has died after the Tuesday shooting at Oxford High School, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. Justin Shilling, 17, died at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac at approximately 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, according to an update from Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe. A total of 11 people were shot, 10 students and a teacher during the Tuesday, Nov. 30 incident at Oxford High School. Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office says Gary Berthiaume, 79, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of gross indecency in 47th District Court. Berthiaume’s plea comes as part of a larger investigation being conducted into alleged abuse by several priests in Michigan. During the course of the investigation, Nessel’s office has charged 11 clergymen, with four of them being convicted and sentenced already. Tim Greimel is the former state House Democratic leader and also served on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners from 2007 to 2012. “The biggest obstacle to moving Pontiac forward is and has been a discord between the mayor and city council,” he says. “A key question is going to be the working relationship between the mayor and city council.”He says building a new youth recreation center is another top priority in this term as mayor. He was critical of Pontiac’s lack of a permanent youth recreation center during his campaign. Both Greimel and Riley have been critical of how Pontiac has failed to spend funds from a 2018 youth recreation millage.

80-year-old woman with car trouble, shot in face in suspected drive-by

PONTIAC, MI -- An 80-year-old woman is expected to undergo surgery to remove bullet fragments from her between her eyes after she was shot in the face Sunday while sitting in her car. According to the Associated Press, the woman experienced some trouble with her car battery after visiting a home in Pontiac. While waiting for a jumpstart, someone fired shots into her vehicle, striking her in the face. The woman was sitting in the driver’s seat when the shooting took place. The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and family told the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office she was expected to undergo surgery due to her injuries.
