OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A man was fatally struck by two passing vehicles on I-75 late Tuesday night after he got out of his car following a crash.

Michigan State Police said a 25-year-old Burton man was driving on southbound I-75 near Grange Hall Road when he lost control of his car and hit the right shoulder wall in the construction zone before stopping in the left lane.

The 25-year-old got out of his car and was standing next to it when the driver of a second car, traveling in the left lane, failed to stop and hit the Burton man’s car.

The impact of the crash led to the man being struck by his car and landing onto the freeway while his vehicle continued out of control into the right shoulder.

The driver of a third car then struck the Burton man.

Police said the 25-year-old died at the scene. No other injuries were reported, and both drivers involved in the crash stopped and cooperated with the investigation.

State police reopened the freeway following the on-scene investigation.

“I can not say this enough, stay in your car if you are involved in a crash,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “The pedestrian who was not hurt during the initial crash, ended up losing his life due to standing in the road after that crash. Stay in your vehicle, keep your seatbelt on and call 911.”
