Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge temporarily reopens

Bridge reopening on Thursday, May 22

The Grosse Ile Parkway Bridge is expected to temporarily reopen to provide traffic relief ahead of Memorial Day weekend and Grosse Ile Islandfest, Wayne County officials said.

The bridge was scheduled to reopen to pedestrian and vehicular traffic at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, according to the Wayne County Department of Public Services.

The department said that the bridge will reopen for up to four weeks because the first phase of necessary maintenance repairs was completed ahead of schedule. It was initially closed on May 1 for construction work.

“In a proactive effort to minimize disruptions and maximize project efficiency, DPS has accelerated the fractural critical bridge inspection, originally scheduled for June,” according to a release from the Wayne County Department of Public Services. “The inspection was completed on May 22, 2025, allowing for the design and planning of the next phase of repairs while crews remain mobilized and ready to resume work.”

More information about the next phase of work and closures will be released when they are finalized, officials said.

“The Wayne County Department of Public Services appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to safely and efficiently complete these important infrastructure improvements,” according to the release.
