DETROIT – A 3-year-old child is hospitalized after being thrown into a windshield during a crash on I-96 in Detroit.
The crash happened at about 9:40 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, at eastbound I-96 and M-39 (Southfield Freeway), according to Michigan State Police.
When troopers arrived, they discovered that a three-car crash had happened on the I-96 Local Lanes ramp to Southfield Freeway.
The at-fault driver, identified as a 32-year-old Detroit woman, had a 3-year-old child in the car with her at the time of the crash.
Police say the 3-year-old was thrown into the front windshield from the backseat of the car.
The child was taken to a local hospital. No other serious injuries were reported.
The ramp was closed as police investigated.
“Drivers are responsible for all the passengers in their vehicle,” said Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw. “It is even more important to ensure that children are belted in to the proper child seat. Every trip, every time.”
