Of everyone involved, the two teens and Mr. Nino-Ramirez had suffered severe enough injuries that they required an airlift to a Kalamazoo area hospital for treatment. A passenger in the work van was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

MONROE, MI - A man jumped over a Monroe gas station counter Monday to rob the clerk of numerous packs of Newport cigarettes, police said. Initial investigation determined that an unarmed subject donning a black mask over his face entered the station and demanded money from the clerk, police said. Two state agencies have teamed up to more effectively fight wildfires – it’s an effort more than 5 years in the making. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Michigan State Police are working together to use a “Bambi Bucket,” and helicopter to fight wildfires. A MSP UH-1 helicopter, known as a “Huey,” hovers low over a lake to fill the DNR’s 320-gallon collapsible “Bambi Bucket” with water. Since then, the $25,000 bucket was bought by the DNR with a federal grant while MSP purchased the Huey from military surplus. So far in 2022, the DNR has worked to suppress 138 wildfires covering more than 2,900 acres across the state.

First responders were called around 5 p.m. Sunday to the scene within the village of Bear Lake in Manistee County. Police said the man was diving off of a boat to swim when he began to struggle and couldn’t resurface. Search efforts were conducted by the Manistee County Dive Team with the help of numerous agencies including the Bear Lake Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard, and Michigan State Police. Police did not immediately release the name of the man, or say if he was swimming alone or with others.

HILLSDALE COUNTY, MI – One man was killed and another man was hospitalized Saturday night after the two men crashed their motorcycles while driving near the Michigan-Ohio border. Michigan State Police responded to the fatal crash at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, May 27, on Waldron Road near Territorial Road, which is on the state borderline in Michigan’s Hillsdale County, according to a tweet by MSP. Witnesses at the scene said the pair of motorcyclists were traveling south on Waldron and were “driving reckless at high speeds,” according to MSP. Both motorcyclists were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for injuries from the crash. Police suspect alcohol was a factor in the crash, according to police.

BUENA VISTA, MI - A motorcyclist was arrested in Saginaw County after being clocked speeding at 141 mph. The trooper did not pursue the speeding motorcycle and notified dispatch, according to MSP. Another trooper on a traffic-stop approximately one mile further north later observed the speeding motorcycle approaching. The motorcyclist then changed lanes and was clocked at 141 mph when passing the stopped trooper, said police. The motorcyclist is facing charges that include fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, registration, insurance, and license violations, according to MSP.

Erik Poul Moller Nielsen, 36, was shot and killed by a Columbia Township police officer on the morning of March 31. In response, MSP released a redacted incident report, though a request for the full investigative report was denied, as the report was not complete at the time of the request, police officials said. The incident report written by MSP trooper Wyatt Peters details the initial state police investigation into the shooting. The shooting took place at about 2:09 a.m. March 31, in the 100 block of Hawthorne Drive near Lake Columbia in Columbia Township, southeast of Jackson.

Kimberly Vetter. “The Third District marks the halfway point.”With the Fifth and Sixth districts already outfitted, there are now about 850 bodycams deployed, Vetter said. Body-worn cameras are one more tool to ensure transparency and accountability.”The Axon bodycams have the capability to record and synch with troopers’ in-car dashboard cameras, Vetter said. As of May 2022, the MSP is about halfway through deploying 1,700 bodycams to its troopers throughout the state.

During October 2021, troopers from the Michigan State Police Houghton Lake Post were alerted by Child Protective Services to an alleged sexual assault, according to a news release. The victim had told a parent that she was sexually abused from 2014 to 2018. The MSP 7th District Fugitive Team arrested Hedrick and lodged him in the Kalkaska County Jail. Hedrick was arraigned on Wednesday, May 25 in the 87-B District Court in Kalkaska County on charges of second-degree criminal sexual conduct and criminal sexual conduct assault with intent to commit penetration.
