She spoke with Local 4 about her experience, what it took to get there, and what’s next for her

TROY, Mich. – A Troy eighth grader is making waves after an impressive run at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

Sanvi Mandvekar, 13, from Larson Middle School, made it to the top 57 spellers in the nation before being eliminated in the eighth round.

She spoke with Local 4 about her experience, what it took to get there, and what’s next for her.

Sanvi Mandvekar, 13, advanced to the top 57 out of 243 competitors. She also discussed her thought process when she heard the word “Tubifacient” and what was going through her mind.

She mentioned her favorite word—maybe one that’s fun to say or has a cool meaning.

Mandvekar also advised other young students to aspire to compete in a national competition.

She’s not just a spelling champion; she’s a martial artist, a runner, a school newspaper editor, and even a future doctor.
