OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – A stretch of M-59 in Oakland County is undergoing a resurfacing project that began on Tuesday.

M-59 between Milford Road and Pontiac Lake Road in Highland and White Lake townships has single-lane closures along the nearly 10-mile stretch for resurfacing, guardrail replacement, pavement markings and upgrading sidewalks to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The $8 million project affects both directions of M-59 in one- to two-mile segments at the west end of the roadway. Work is between Milford Road and Duck Lake Road.

Afterward, crews will move east through the summer and fall.

“Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to grow our economy, helping Michiganders go to work, drop their kids off at school and run errands safely,” said Governor Gretchen Whitmer. “By the end of this construction season, we will have fixed, repaired or replaced nearly 24,500 lane miles of roads and 1,900 bridges, supporting thousands of good-paying, local jobs without raising taxes by a dime. This year, let’s build on our momentum to pass a bipartisan local road funding plan so we can keep fixing our damn roads and creating good-paying, local jobs.”
