Public invited to discuss Woodward Avenue improvements at MDOT open houses

Open houses are June 12 and 17

The QLINE streetcar operates on Woodward Ave., Friday, May 12, 2017, in Detroit. The $140 million QLINE light rail system will connect Campus Martius in downtown Detroit to the city's New Center. The QLINE features three-piece streetcars that are each 66 feet long and can carry an average of 125 passengers per car. Michigan’s Department of Transportation (MDOT) is inviting the public to provide their input on a corridor plan that will improve transportation on Woodwood Avenue between Detroit and Pontiac.

According to MDOT, “it will analyze operations and safety for all road users along the corridor, as well as assess pavement needs and future project prioritization.”

Two open houses will offer transportation and safety data and previous municipal plans, as well as the opportunity to provide feedback.

MDOT is devising a strategic plan for Woodward between Adams Avenue in downtown Detroit and the Woodward Loop in Pontiac.

The plan “outlines potential improvements on Woodward Avenue that consider environmental, historic preservation and economic goals,” MDOT said in a release.

The open houses will be held from 3-6 p.m. on these dates and in these locations:

  • Thursday, June 12, Baldwin Public Library, 300 W. Merrill St., Birmingham
  • Tuesday, June 17, Cadillac Place, 3044 W. Grand Blvd., Room L150, Detroit.

Community representatives, business owners and residents are invited. Paper surveys will be available, as well as a link to an online version. More information can be found on MDOT’s website.
