DETROIT – Detroit’s first “Art Alley” is now open, transforming a neglected alley into a vibrant public space.
Over the next few weeks, nine new art alleys will open in neighborhoods across the city.
Local 4 was able to get a glimpse of the beautiful North End Arts Alley, located at 9400 Oakland Avenue next to the Oakland Avenue Urban Farm on Tuesday (June 10).
The “Agri-Arts Alley” blends agriculture and public art, featuring murals, mosaics, and sculptures created by local artists.
Detroit’s Office of Arts, Culture, and Entrepreneurship is behind the multi-million-dollar Art Alley project, which is intended to revitalize neighborhoods and provide gathering spaces for residents that reflect the community’s character and culture.
The other eight alleys will all open over the next four weeks, each with its unique theme and painted by a different artist.
