Crash in Waterford Township leaves multiple injured, including 10-year-old

Marijuana believed to be factor in crash, police say

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Multiple were injured in a two-car crash in Waterford Township Wednesday evening.

The crash happened in the area of Highland Road and Cass Lake Road at around 6 p.m. on June 11, 2025.

According to police, a 19-year-old from Waterford was driving a Ford Escape south on Cass Lake Road when their car was struck by a Jaguar X-Type driven by a 17-year-old from Waterford who went through a red light while turning onto Highland Road from northbound Cass Lake Road.

The 17-year-old driver of the Jaguar was taken to a local hospital for his injuries. Police believe drugs played a factor in the crash after finding evidence of marijuana on his car’s floorboard. A search warrant was obtained for blood analysis of the driver.

The 19-year-old driver of the Ford and their 22-year-old front-seat passenger were taken to a local hospital for their injuries. A 14-year-old rear-seat passenger sustained minor injuries from the crash and was released from the hospital. A 10-year-old rear seat passenger sustained a serious head injury and was taken to DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital and is listed in critical condition.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
