Man charged in Troy accidental shooting that critically injured 9-year-old

Officials said the child had emergency surgery

TROY, Mich. – Zanious Terell Murphy has been arrested for his involvement in the shooting that critically injured a 9-year-old in Troy.

Murphy was arrested on Thursday (June 5) for firearm safe storage, causing serious injury to a minor.

The shooting occurred on Friday (May 30) at 4:12 p.m. on Crooks Road and Muer Street, where police said a 9-year-old boy was bleeding from his head.

Officials said the boy was transported to a Metro Detroit hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and has been listed in critical condition.

Police said a firearm was recovered inside the residence.

Murphy was arraigned at 52-4 District Court, where bond was set at $30,000, no 10%.

There is no relation between Murphy and the 9-year-old boy, other than their shared residence.

The 9-year-old boy is still in critical condition.
