SOUTHGATE, Mich. – Two police officers are recovering after being shot by a man at a Southgate apartment complex on Thursday.
The incident unfolded on June 19 at an apartment complex in the 13000 block of Village Park Drive after officers received a report of a man waving a gun in the complex.
According to police, the situation appeared to have stemmed from a dispute between a couple of people inside the apartment complex.
Jeremiah Christian Kemp, 20, is accused of shooting two officers. He then ran away from the scene.

Details about Kemp’s connection to the apartment residents are unclear.
After issuing a shelter-in-place order in the area, police searched for Kemp and later found him hiding in a nearby apartment.
Joe Marsh, Director of Public Safety for the city of Southgate, spoke in a press conference Thursday night and said the officers injured in the shooting are expected to be okay and are in good spirits.
“I’m sure they’re going to like to hear that this shooter is in custody,” said Marsh.
Marsh said the swift response from law enforcement was commendable as the hours-long manhunt finally came to an end.
“We have two police officers just trying to do their job, both injured in the line of duty,” Marsh said.
The police response involved multiple agencies, including federal, state, and local law enforcement.
“This was an incredible partnership,” Marsh said, highlighting the collaboration among various departments.
The arrest of Kemp brought relief to the community as they no longer had to shelter in place.
“It’s a relief that nothing happened to any other police officers trying to apprehend him,” Marsh said.
The search for the weapon continues, with officials urging the public to report any sightings of the weapon.
“If anybody sees the gun, we don’t want them to touch it. Just contact 911,” Marsh said.
