SOUTHGATE, Mich. – A 2-year-old girl drowned in a pool during a family gathering in Southgate.
The incident occurred on Friday (June 20) at 8:15 p.m. when Southgate police were dispatched for a medical emergency in the 16000 block of Quarry in the outdoor pool area.
Police said they were advised about the 2-year-old girl who was not breathing, and life-saving measures were attempted (CPR).
Officials said medical personnel arrived on the scene and began further life-saving measures.
The 2-year-old girl was transported to Wyandotte Hospital by ambulance, where she was pronounced dead.
Police said the initial investigation at the scene indicated that the child had fallen into the pool during a party event in the pool area.
Officials stated that multiple adults and children were present in the pool area at the time of the incident.
Police said it is unknown how long the child was in the pool before she was found.
Detectives are actively investigating, and this investigation is ongoing, pending further medical findings.
