WAYNE, Mich. – Video from inside a church in Wayne shows the moment a crowd begins to react to a suspected active shooter outside the church.
The Wayne Police Department responded to reports of an active shooter at CrossPointe Community Church on Sunday, June 22, 2025, morning.
Police said when officers got to the church they determined that a security guard for the church shot and killed the suspect. They said one person was also shot in the leg.
The church had just wrapped up an event that was being live streamed to its YouTube page. The video shows the crowd clapping, some people begin to stand, and then shouting can be heard off screen.
People in the church take cover behind chairs and then begin to run from the room. Someone tells them to go to the back and people begin fleeing from the room.
“Everybody to the back, please, everybody come to the back. Come to the back,” the person yells.
A loud bang is heard and then there’s more screaming. The sound begins to cut out as everybody exits the room where the event was being held.
The shooting is still under investigation and Wayne police are asking people to avoid the area.
The church is located on Glenwood Road, between South Wayne and South Newburgh roads.
