CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A Macomb County man has been reconvicted of first-degree murder.
On Friday, June 20, a jury found Jerry Motley guilty of first-degree premeditated murder and going armed with a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent in the killing of his boss in 2018.
According to authorities, Motley brought a gun to his job at Reliable Fence in Clinton Township, where he shot his coworker twice before shooting and killing the owner, Thomas Badke.
The coworker, Angelo Micale, survived the shooting.
Motley was arrested a few hours after the shooting and reportedly confessed at the time.
In 2019, Motley was found guilty of first-degree murder, two counts of felony firearm, assault with intent to murder, and a dangerous weapon charge and was sentenced to life in prison.
The conviction was later overturned after his trial counsel was found to be ineffective.
After a nearly three-week trial, a jury rejected the claim that Motley was legally insane and convicted him of first-degree murder.
He will be sentenced again on Aug. 7.
