DETROIT – Some Detroit residents were met with an unpleasant surprise Wednesday, June 25, when bright yellow water flowed from their faucets.
The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) explained that the discoloration is due to a water system improvement project by the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA).
The project is happening at Water Works Park, a water treatment plant located on East Jefferson that supplies water to residents in downtown Detroit, Elmwood Park, West and East Village, Island View, Indian Village, the Marina District and Belle Isle.
Officials have stated that while the water is safe for washing, it should not be consumed.
Residents experiencing the discoloration are asked to contact DWSD at 313-267-8000.
