DETROIT – A former gas station clerk convicted of shooting and killing a man will soon learn how long he will spend in prison.

It happened in 2023 at an ExxonMobil gas station in Detroit on Vernor Highway.

According to authorities, Moad Mohamed Al-Gaham was working as a gas station clerk when he got into an argument with Anthony McNary over beef jerky. McNary reportedly placed the item in his pocket before the clerk confronted him.

Surveillance video shows McNary loitering outside the gas station and approaching the door multiple times. At one point, Al-Gaham is seen raising a gun to the window and shooting McNary in the head, killing him.

Police said the gun he used was unlicensed.

Al-Gaham was found guilty of second-degree murder. He is scheduled to be sentenced Friday, June 27, at 9 a.m.

“We are heartbroken and still dealing with the senseless loss of Anthony, and we know that nothing will ever bring him back. We are grateful for the jury’s verdict and are hopeful that full justice will be served to Mr. Al-Gaham at sentencing.”
