Teens sexually assaulted at Juvenile Detention Facility in Hamtramck

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – An Oakland County woman has been sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting two teenage boys while working at a Wayne County juvenile jail.

Officials said Svetlana Kuryanova, 33, of Farmington Hills, sexually assaulted two boys -- ages 16 and 17 -- on April 8, 2024, at the Juvenile Detention Facility on Hamtramck Drive in Hamtramck.

Kuryanova was working as a juvenile detention specialist at the time.

She was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct -- county prisoner.

“The allegations in this case are among the most disturbing ones that I have seen,” Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy said in May 2024. “It is hard to wrap my brain around the fact that this occurred in the Juvenile Detention Facility, and charged defendant is allegedly responsible for this illegal behavior.”

Kuryanova was found guilty by a jury on June 17, 2025.

She was sentenced on July 2, 2025, to 71 months to 15 years in prison.
