Plane crashes into tree while landing in Monroe County

68-year-old pilot not injured

WHITEFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A plane experienced mechanical issues while landing in Monroe County and crashed into a tree.

The crash happened at the Toledo Suburban Airport in Whiteford Township at 6:55 p.m. Tuesday, Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough said.

It was stated in the press release that a preliminary investigation revealed a 68-year-old man from Sylvania, Ohio, was flying a 2008 Cessna COLC41-550FG aircraft.

While he was landing on the runway, the plan experienced mechanical issues, police said.

The aircraft went off the runway into a field, crashing into a large tree, police said. The pilot was the only person inside the aircraft at the time of the crash. The pilot reported to have no injuries and was released from the scene.

Members of the Whiteford Township Fire Department assisted at the scene, police said. The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration have been notified.

The crash remains under investigation by Deputy Paul Senio of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Uniformed Services Division.
