2 killed when suspect fleeing police crashes into another vehicle
WHITEFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A motorist fleeing troopers in southwestern Michigan and someone in a second vehicle both died Thursday when the two vehicles collided, state police said. The crash occurred around 4:15 p.m. in Whiteford Township in Monroe County, just north of the Ohio state line, police said. Troopers had stopped a suspect in a domestic violence incident before the suspect fled from the scene, police said. The suspect ran a stop sign at an intersection and crashed into the second vehicle, which killed the suspect and a person in the second vehicle, police said. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the person killed in the second vehicle was the driver or a passenger.

Police and rescue crews were called at 10:36 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, to southbound US-23 near Rauch Road in Whiteford Township for a reported two-vehicle crash, according to the Michigan State Police. An occupant of the Trax, a 19-year-old Ottawa Lake woman, suffered significant injuries in the crash and was taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital in Ohio for emergency medical treatment, police said. Despite lifesaving efforts, the woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. The Summerfield Township Fire Department, Whiteford Township Fire Department, Bedford Township Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance assisted at the scene.

Officials said the 33-year-old woman was driving a blue Chevrolet Impala around 10:50 p.m. Tuesday (March 2) on northbound US 23. At some point when she was north of Sterns Road in Whiteford Township, the woman drove off the roadway to the west and into the median, police said. The Impala continued north and crashed into a traffic barrier over the Ottawa Lake Outlet, according to authorities. The car went through the barrier and plummeted 24 feet into the water outlet, deputies said.

WHITEFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 33-year-old Ypsilanti man died due to a vehicle crash on US-23 Thursday evening. According to authorities, at about 6:50 p.m. Thursday, the Ypsilanti man was driving a black 2008 Hyundai Tiburon northbound on US-23 in Whiteford Township when he pulled over onto the right shoulder for unknown reasons. Shortly after, the man reportedly began traveling in reverse on the shoulder and as he reentered the freeway, driving backwards in the far right lane. As the Ypsilanti man reentered the freeway, his Hyundai was struck by a 52-year-old Adrian man driving a Ford Expedition who was unable to stop while traveling northbound on US-23. The 33-year-old man driving the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.
